Conventional disposal of water from oil fields involves shipping the returned water to an offsite location, where it is passed through bag and cartridge filters prior to deep well injection in a disposal well.
The high maintenance requirement of this saltwater filtration system and recent reclassification of spent media as TENORM has led to many companies reevaluating their disposal process.
The STiR industrial water filter is an automatic, backwashable filter which can continually protect single-use filter media. The walnut shell media in the STiR can remove up to 90% of free oil, and 95% of suspended solids at 5 micron. The bed is permanent, and does not need to be replaced over the life of the product (30 year lifespan).
25 micron bag filters followed by 10 micron cartridge filters remove an average of 50% of TSS (total suspended solids) and oil from injection water. Perfect for salt water filtration, the STiR filter greatly increases this removal efficiency, and sends the rejected material back to upstream processing.
The reduction in material sent to the injection pump as a result of the salt water filter increases the life of the formation by preventing it from prematurely plugging.
The STiR improves on bag and cartridge salt water filters by providing cleaner water, minimizing waste disposal costs, minimizing operator attention, easily handling plant upsets, and provides the end user with greater confidence in the injection process.
